Creighton University Medical Center Part of Elite Melanoma Center of Excellence Group

Creighton University Medical Center’s Melanoma and Skin Cancer Program has been recognized as one of the first ten Melanoma Centers of Excellence, as announced by the Melanoma Hope Network (MHN). As a Melanoma Center of Excellence, CUMC is being recognized as providing exceptional and comprehensive care and knowledge and compassion to their patients. MHN’s goal is to create the premier listing of melanoma treatment centers across the country, so patients can easily locate those centers and doctors across the country that offer the most complete spectrum of care in the treatment of melanoma.  

Linda Ollis, Creighton University Medical Center CEO, congratulated the team for their award. “The kind of positive teamwork and high quality outcomes evident in our Melanoma and Skin Cancer Program team are what makes receipt these kinds of awards possible, “she said. “Congratulations to the forward-thinkers on our team who made this happen.”  

As part of certification process, CUMC’s Melanoma and Skin Cancer Program had to a variety of requirements, including the ability to treat all stages of melanoma; a dedicated 0.5 FTE physician performing melanoma treatment; a multidisciplinary approach providing seamless care in dermatology, surgery, medical oncology and radiation oncology; and participation in community education efforts among others.  

CUMC’s Melanoma and Skin Cancer Program is an innovative multidisciplinary center. It is designed to evaluate and treat patients with unusual pigmented skin lesions or moles as well as worrisome skin problems which may be cancerous. The team is made up of specialists from many disciplines with an established track record in the early diagnosis of melanoma and other skin cancers.  

MHN is a non-profit organization established to bring hope, education and direct personal support to patients diagnosed with melanoma, the most life-threatening form of skin cancer. MHN supports research, increases patient awareness of clinical trials and helps patients and their primary physicians find the appropriate trials for their particular stage of disease.
