About Us-Occupational Therapy

What is occupational therapy?

Occupational therapy is a health and rehabilitation profession that helps people regain, develop, and build skills that are important for independent functioning, health, well-being, security, and happiness. Occupational therapy practitioners work with people of all ages who, because of illness or injury, need specialized assistance in learning skills to enable them to lead independent, productive, and satisfying lives (AOTA, 2002).

Occupational therapy can help prevent injury or the worsening of existing disabilities and may allow individuals to return to a healthy lifestyle sooner than they would without intervention. Because of this, occupational therapists help keep health care costs down and may help maximize the quality of life for the individual, their family, and other caregivers (AOTA, 2002).

What occupational therapy services are available at Creighton University Medical Center?

The Occupational Therapy Department at Creighton University Medical Center employs over 15 professionally licensed staff. The Department of Occupational Therapy provides treatment for inpatients and outpatients with a variety of diagnoses.
We offer a variety of specialized outpatient occupational therapy programs:

•Driving and Community Mobility Rehabilitation

• Ergonomic Services

• Hand Therapy

• Lymphedema Treatment Program

• Pediatric Therapy

• Stroke Rehabilitation

The department hours of operation are from 7:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. weekdays and weekends.

The Department of Occupational Therapy accepts student placements for occupational therapy Fieldwork Level I, Level II, and Professional Rotations.
