Visiting Hours

Creighton University Medical Center believes that visitation is beneficial to patient recovery and enhances healing. Visitation shall occur as patient condition allows. The number of visitors in a patient's room will depend on the patient's condition, treatment needs and respect for spatial considerations. Visitors under l4 years of age must be under direct adult supervision (other than the patient) at all times.

Note to all Patients about Visitors: We are here to help, and want you to get better. Please ask your nurse for more specific visitor information. If your visitors come too often or stay too long, don't feel it is impolite to ask your guests to cut short their visits. The nursing staff is available to help you limit visitors as you wish.

Visiting hours are generally as follows:

General Hospital & Restorative Care Unit

  • 6:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Visitors under 14 years limit visits. Direct adult supervision at all times.
  • Patients are not to be responsible for supervising children.

Pediatrics & Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

  • 11:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Parents or grandparents -no time restrictions.
  • PICU -Visitors limited to two at a time. Visitors not directly related to the patient must be accompanied by a parent or make specific arrangements with the nursing staff.
  • Sibling visitation - two children can visit in the patient room at one time. Other children are to remain in the Pediatric Waiting Room and must be supervised by an adult.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

  • 11:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

  • Visitors are limited to two at a time.
  • Siblings 3 years or older may visit, but sibling visitation may be suspended during outbreaks of communicable disease. In such cases, signs will be posted outside the NICU and parents will be notified by staff. Thorough hand washing is required.
  • All visitors must be accompanied by a parent or the parent must make prior arrangements with the nursing staff.

Family Birth Center (Mother-Baby Unit)

  • 11:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • All visitors will sign in upon entering the unit. Visitors on the unit after hours will obtain a "visitor" sticker.
  • Fathers, significant others and grandparents are welcome anytime.
  • Thorough hand washing is required before handling infants.
  • Parents will be instructed to limit visitors and supervise children. Parents will be taught to safeguard their infants from contact with friends and relatives who are ill.
  • Children with febrile illness or exposure to communicable disease (e.g., varicella 10-21 days prior, RSV; rotovirus) may not visit.

Labor & Delivery

  • Visitation during labor is at the discretion of the physician and nurse assigned to the patient. Every attempt will be made to accommodate the patient's wishes. However, patient care and the needs of the neonate during the labor and delivery process are of paramount concern.
  • Visitation is normally limited to two family members during the delivery process itself. Visitors are present during the labor and delivery process to provide support. Visitors are also asked to respect the requests of the staff as they provide care to the patient.
