Creighton University Medical Center is a leading private research and teaching hospital staffed by a highly experienced team of physicians and scientists.
An Academic Medical Center
Our physicians are on the faculty of the renowned Creighton University School of Medicine, where they may lead or participate in clinical trials. This means, as a patient, you may have early access to new and innovative treatments, some of which may not be available at other hospitals.
A Multidisciplinary Approach
At the Center for Breast Care, all our physician specialists, nurses and technologists are available for you in one place. This means you shouldn’t have to make multiple trips to multiple appointments on multiple days. This also means you may receive a diagnosis the same day of your test rather than waiting several weeks.
Quality of Life
Creighton University Medical Center takes a carefully balanced approach to patient care, clinical research and innovative programs that emphasize your quality of life. So, in addition to our team of skilled specialists, we provide you and your family with access to a comprehensive support staff, including social services, comprehensive care management, cancer counseling needs, patient education and an experienced nursing team.
Same-Day Diagnosis
According to the Healthcare Advisory Board, the national average waiting time for a diagnosis of breast cancer for most women is 23-25 days. At the Center for Breast Care, we may be able to make an on-site, immediate diagnosis in about 30-90 minutes – not 25 days. We have an integrated team of surgical oncologists, cytopathologists, medical geneticists and breast imaging experts in one center that can examine your mammogram, perform a minimally invasive biopsy and make an on-site, virtually immediate diagnosis. This comprehensive approach also means you shouldn’t have to make multiple trips to multiple appointments on multiple days.
Diagnostic methods include
mammography, focused ultra-sonography, MRI, fine-needle biopsy, stereotactic vacuum assisted core biopsies, MRI guided core biopsy and breast physical examinations. In addition, the Hereditary Breast Cancer Team (medical geneticists, molecular biologists and genetic counselors) at the Center can determine your risk for developing breast cancer before it ever happens, based on family history, genetic testing and other factors.
Second Opinion Consultations Second opinions should be considered for anyone with a potential diagnosis of breast cancer. This allows patient the time to obtain accurate information shielded from the anxiety provoking and inappropriate rush to surgery often seen in this setting. Frequently, such impulsive decisions lead to the omission of effective treatment options such as chemo-therapy before surgery which can be very important in young breast cancer patients.
