Trauma and Emergency

Creighton University Medical Center is home to one of the busiest emergency departments in the state. We treat about 32,000 patients every year. Our Trauma Team consists of board-certified surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, anesthesiologists, emergency department nurses, ancillary staff, and on-call specialists who are all ready to respond and care for injured patients. Dedicated trauma bays ensure rapid and comprehensive patient evaluation and treatment. Operating room teams stand at the ready to provide rapid damage-control surgery to improve survivability. Specialized critical care teams, led by intensivists and surgeons, staff our 25-bed tertiary-care intensive care unit. Our critical care nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, social workers, and other team members all are dedicated to ensuring superior care using evidence-based practice.

As one of the region’s most respected academic medical centers, Creighton University Medical Center physicians and nurses not only treat patients, they also conduct leading-edge medical research while training and mentoring the next generation of health care professionals.

Trauma Outreach

Creighton’s trauma service recognizes that the entire continuum of care, of the injured patient, needs to be addressed. From injury prevention to rehabilitation, Creighton strives to be a leader in the care of the injured. Many of the patients that will be seen by our staff will be initially seen and treated by pre-hospital personnel and critical access centers before being transferred to our facility. We recognize that as a leader in trauma services, it is our responsibility to ensure that educational resources are available to ensure continuity of superior care. We routinely review patient care reports with pre-hospital personnel and provide educational opportunities for healthcare centers in our region.
