Creighton University Medical Center Wins National, Regional Awards For “Call or Be Called” Campaign

(Omaha, Neb. - June 9, 2010) – Creighton University Medical Center’s “Call or Be Called” campaign, an integrated communications effort designed to raise heart health awareness and encourage signups for free health screenings offered by the medical center, has recently been recognized with several national and regional awards. Specifically, CUMC has received recognition by the American Marketing Association (AMA) – Omaha Chapter, Healthcare Marketing Report magazine (HMR), and Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) – Nebraska Chapter.

“Creighton University Medical Center’s Call or Be Called campaign was such a success due to the amazing effort and dedication of so many people,” said Dustin Zabokrtsky, director, business development, Creighton University Medical Center. “Heart health is a serious matter, and through these community screenings, our physicians and staff were able to ease the concern for many individuals and families in Nebraska. We are delighted that our campaign efforts have been recognized in this way.”

The Omaha Chapter of the American Marketing Association recognized CUMC with two awards. Consideration for a Pinnacle Award by the AMA is based on both campaign execution and results. The “Call or Be Called” campaign received:

  • Platinum Award – Total Marketing Campaign
  • Gold Award – Direct Response Campaign

The Healthcare Advertising Awards, sponsored by Heathcare Marketing Report, is the largest and oldest health care marketing award show in the nation with more than 4,000 competing entries. Marking the 27th year of the awards, CUMC’s “Call or Be Called” campaign received:

  • Gold Award – Newspaper Single
  • Silver Award – Radio Single
  • Silver Award – Total Advertising with TV
  • Merit Award – Special Event

The Paper Anvil Awards of the Nebraska Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America provides select marketing and public relations categories for campaign award consideration. CUMC was recognized within the overall marketing campaign integration category:

  • Award of Excellence – Integrated Marketing Communications Campaign

“Call or Be Called” was designed with CUMC’s advertising partner Swanson Russell, to bring a memorable and engaging approach to the serious nature of heart health. The campaign stemmed from the idea that, for some, it may take a message from the big guy upstairs to get their attention when it comes to taking care of their heart health. A strong element of the campaign allowed for family and friends to send along a “voice message from God” to someone they cared about, encouraging them to sign up for a free screening at select Nebraska and Iowa area locations.

The initial response to “Call or Be Called” was off the charts, causing the campaign to be suspended during the first week. In recognition of the high volume of interest, a second campaign was launched with additional screening dates. Overall, a total of 3,500 health screenings were performed throughout the area as part of the campaign.
