Creighton University Medical Center supports your role in the decision to receive health-care services. Specifically, you have the
right to:
- Participate in all aspects of your care.
- Make informed decisions about the medical care you receive, including the decision to continue, limit, refuse or discontinue life-sustaining treatment to the extent permitted by state and federal law and in accordance with the beliefs and practices of the Catholic faith.
- Designate another person to be the decision maker for your healthcare in the event that you are unable to make those decisions for yourself.
- Receive information regarding proposed treatments and procedures and the risks and benefits associated with each.
- Appropriate assessment and management of your pain.
- Access to care and services that are available and medically indicated.
- Personal and informational privacy and security to the extent permitted by law.
- Complaints resolved in a timely fashion.
- Participate in social, religious and community group activities as allowed by your medical condition.
- Participate in experimental research only upon your informed written consent.
In addition to your rights as a patient, you also have responsibilities at Creighton University Medical Center. Specifically, you have the responsibility to:
- Provide accurate and complete information regarding your medical history and other matters relating to your health.
- Make it known if you do not clearly understand the course of treatment and what is expected of you.
- Follow the treatment plan recommended by the physician primarily responsible for your care.
- Work with your doctor and nurse to develop a pain management plan.
- Accept the consequences of your actions if you refuse treatment or do not follow the practitioner's instructions.
- Assure that the financial obligations of your healthcare are met as promptly as possible.
- Follow hospital policies, procedures and regulations affecting patient care and conduct.
- Show consideration for the rights of other patients, visitors and hospital personnel.
- Inform the hospital staff of complaints and concerns.
