Patient Testimonials: Jill Olsen
Jill Olsen
Jill had been out of college for just a few years and working at her first job when she found out she had a very serious form of skin cancer that had progressed to stage two.
For more than a decade Jill was told not to worry about the discoloration on her lip. But when the spot began to spread she became more insistent that the maxillofacial surgeon she was referred to time and again take a closer look. Finally a biopsy was done and within the week the result came back – cancer.
Instead of taking the original referral she received, she listened to her mom who was in the health care field and went to see Dr. Dobleman. Her mom knew he did both cancer and reconstructive surgery.
“Dr. Dobleman treated me in a very caring manner and always called me personally to explain how things were going and the next steps,” says Jill. “Everyone connected to my case was extremely sensitive and caring which helped me keep a good frame of mind which was so important,” Jill adds.
“I came into Dr. Dobleman after not having the best experience with my maxillofacial surgeon and his team took the time to make sure I understood everything and took into account my emotional needs,” notes Jill. “Being told you have cancer is a sad, angry frustrating experience and you’ve got to have people around you who understand that,” she explains.
Dr. Dobleman performed the cancer and reconstructive surgery together. Jill had to have 30 stitches and although speaking at first required time and thought, she did not have to have speech therapy.
“We may do more reconstructive surgery in the future, but right now I am back at work and can do my job,” says Jill. She is in sales and marketing for a local software development company and travels a lot to meet with clients.
Right now she is in remission and goes back for regular appointments. “I am keeping the positive outlook,” she ends.
