Get with the Guidelines^® Program

Get with the Guidelines is a quality improvement initiative of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. It provides hospital staff with tools to follow proven, evidence-based guidelines and procedures to improve outcomes, prevent future hospitalizations and prolong life for patients battling the effects of heart disease and stroke.

This year, Creighton earned a Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award for excellent care and treatment of patients with heart failure. We also earned a Gold Performance Achievement Award for coronary artery disease. Gold Plus is the highest award available and is given only to hospitals with 85% or higher adherence to the program indicators for two or more consecutive 12-month intervals, and are at 75% or higher compliance with four of nine program measures to improve quality of patient care and outcomes.

Chest Pain Center with Percutaneous Coronary Interventions (accredited by the Society of Chest Pain Centers) 

Key criteria include:

• Integrating the emergency department with the local emergency medical system
• Assessing, diagnosing and treating patients quickly
• Effectively treating patients with low risk for acute coronary syndrome and no assignable cause for their symptoms
• Continually seeking to improve processes and procedures
• Ensuring Chest Pain Center personnel competency and training
• Maintaining organizational structure and commitment
• Having a functional design that promotes optimal patient care
• Supporting community outreach programs that educate the public to promptly seek medical care if they display symptoms of a possible heart attack

Creighton University Medical Center is one of several hospitals in Nebraska selected by Blue Cross and Blue Shield as a Blue Distinction Center in recognition of its high-quality cardiac care.

United Health Premium Cardiac Surgery Specialty Center

Creighton University Medical Center received the top rating of three stars for:

• Cardiac surgery
• Interventional cardiac care
• Cardiac rhythm management

Society of Thoracic Surgeon’s-endorsed endovascular aortic repair program
