As a part of one of the region’s most respected academic medical centers, the Division of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery offers the full range of adult cardiac, thoracic and vascular surgery, with emphasis placed on the evaluation and management of patients with:

• Ischemic heart disease
•  Valvular disorders
• Atrial fibrillation
• Aortic aneurysm and/or dissection
• Connective tissue disorders (such as Marfan Syndrome)
• Thoracic malignancies

Areas of specific interest include:

• Minimally invasive cardiac surgery
• Valvular repair
• Complex arrhythmia device management
• Maze operation for atrial fibrillation
• Endovascular treatment of various aortic pathologies
• Video assisted thoracic surgery (VATS)
• State of the art intensive care unit monitoring

Rather than following an “assembly line” style of care, we insist that each patient receive highly personalized attention from the surgeon. In addition, the referring physician stays in the loop, beginning with the initial consultation right through to the patient’s discharge and eventual follow-up visits.

Clinical Trials

The Division of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery is involved in a series of pharmaceutical and device clinical trials, offering some of the latest medical advances to patients when traditional care is not successful. Trials are typically available for certain patients with diseases such as aortic aneurysm and/or dissection, traumatic aortic transections, heart attack, coronary artery disease and others.
