The Division of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery is active in clinical trials involving minimally invasive heart surgery, adult cardiac surgery and bloodless surgery. The Cardiovascular Surgeons at Creighton University Medical Center are active participants of multiple industry-sponsored clinical trials involving the newest-generation of stent-grafts and cardiac devices along with a handful of other Heart and Vascular Centers of Excellence in the United States.
Furthermore, Creighton University Medical Center is the only institution in Nebraska and surrounding states to develop state-of-the-art heart valve that are amenable for minimally-invasive trans-catheter implantation. This multi-disciplinary translational research project is spearheaded by a cardiovascular surgeon at Creighton University Medical Center to develop a nanotechnology-assisted bio-engineered heart valve prosthesis with low thrombogenecity that is amenable to transfemoral insertion.
