Cardiovascular Services
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, surpassing both cancer and stroke. It is unsurprising, then, that Creighton University Medical Center, the Creighton Cardiac Center and the Division of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery have a staff of cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons and other specialists who are extremely passionate about cardiac education and research and the benefits those elements can bring to the care of their patients with heart conditions.
To that end, we offer highly sophisticated cardiovascular services to patients throughout the region, including the provision of new therapies such as carotid stenting, complex thoracic endovascular aortic repair and other endovascular procedures. As with everything we do, our cardiovascular services are backed by one of the region’s premier academic medical centers, where leading-edge research and medical education drives advanced patient care.
The Cardiac Center was one of the first facilities in Omaha to:
- Offer radial heart catheterizations and interventions (balloon angioplasty and stents)
- Implant a single device that contained both a pacemaker and defibrillator
- Insert stents in coronary arteries
- Utilize a computer-assisted arrhythmia monitoring system
- Introduce new drug-based methods of diagnosis and treatment)
Together, Creighton University Medical Center and The Cardiac Center are proud to be:
- The first cardiac program in Nebraska to offer carotid stenting
- Nebraska’s only accredited program for thoracic endovascular aortic repair
- Home to the region’s only established bloodless heart surgery program
- The only facility in the state to help write the American Heart Association’s National Guidelines for Cardiac Rehabilitation
- The region’s only dedicated aortic clinic and advanced aortic surgery program
- Recognized as having a 23-minute average door-to-balloon time for STEMI patients arriving at the Emergency Department (the AHA national standard is 90 minutes.)
