Every pregnancy is unique, but unfortunately not every pregnancy is perfect. Certain situations can cause a pregnancy to be considered “high-risk.” At the Center for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, we specialize in high-risk pregnancies, including:
- Pregnancies in which the mother is older than 40
- Multiple gestations (twins, triplets or more)
- Recurrent pregnancy loss (previous miscarriages)
- Chronic medical conditions, including:
- Diabetes (type I & II)
- Chronic hypertension
- Ulcerative colitis
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Lupus
- Heart disease
- Cancer
- Certain gynecologic conditions
- A family history of birth defects
Services OfferedThe Center for Maternal-Fetal Medicine offers a comprehensive suite of maternal-fetal services, including:
- Screening for fetal abnormalities
- First-trimester and sequential screening for Down syndrome
- Genetic ultrasound
- Amniocentesis
- Special expertise in the evaluation of the fetal heart
- Preconception counseling, antepartum fetal testing, prenatal screening and in-utero diagnosis and treatment
- A Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit staffed by five board-certified neonatologists, taking care of critically ill newborns
- Outreach clinics in Sioux City, IA, Grand Island, NE, and Norfolk, NE
