According to the American Cancer Society (ACS) more than one million new cases of cancer are expected to be diagnosed this year. The ACS reports that while some cancers can be prevented other cancers are caused by uncontrollable circumstances.
Cancer can be caused by external factors like tobacco, chemicals and radiation. It can also be caused by mutations we inherit, our hormones or immune conditions. It’s important to remember anyone can develop cancer, but the risks do increase with age. Cancer survival rates have increased over recent years. The ACS says this is due to early diagnosis and improvements in treatment.
