The Esophageal Center

The Esophageal Center at Creighton University Medical Center is recognized as a regional leader in the diagnosis and treatment of gastroesophageal disorders (disorders of the stomach and esophagus). The Center’s reputation can be attributed to the dedication of its physicians and staff, whose combined experience and commitment to excellence has allowed us to perform more procedures than any other center in the region.

Esophageal Center - Leaders in Surgery

The Esophageal Center has several generations of expert esophageal surgeons who have guided the esophageal program to continued success since the 1980s. These physicians have been the leaders of treating esophageal disorders and have trained hundreds of physicians internationally.

Our esophageal surgeons treat some of the most complex cases and are often called upon to perform “re-do” surgery for failed anti-reflux surgeries. In addition, our physicians perform the most esophageal procedures in the region.

Our physicians perform a variety of procedures for the treatment of gastroesophageal disorders and esophageal cancer. These include:
  • Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication
  • Endoluminal Gastroplasty
  • Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication
  • Laparoscopic Redo Fundoplication
  • Heller Myotomy
  • Minimally Invasive Esophagectomy

Esophageal Testing Laboratory

The physicians and staff of the esophageal testing laboratory perform several procedures that assist in the diagnosis of patients with esophageal disorders. These procedures include:
  • Bravo capsule and impedance pH monitoring
  • Esophageal Manometry
  • High-resolution and impedance manometry
  • Upper Endoscopy
  • Plicator Procedure
  • Barrx Ablation

PillCam-ESO

Creighton University Medical Center was the first institution in Omaha to offer PillCam ESO, a camera-in-a-pill that allows doctors to evaluate and diagnose diseases of the esophagus – including GERD and Barrett's esophagus, a pre-cancerous condition.

Barrett's Clinic

The Barrett’s Clinic at Creighton University Medical Center offers careful, systematic follow-up of patients allowing the early detection of cancer and the cure of this disease. Patients are entered into a computerized database, which is used to schedule periodic endoscopy and follow-up consultations.
