Stephen Lanspa, MD
Dr. Lanspa received his Doctorate of Medicine at Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. He was a Fellow in Internal Medicine and a Trainee in Gastroenterology at Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota. He is currently a Professor of Medicine and the Chief of the Gastroenterology Division in the Department of Medicine at Creighton University School of Medicine. He is Board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology as well as certified by the National Board of Nutritious Support Specialties. He is Past Governor of the Nebraska Chapter of American College of Gastroenterology.
His special interest is colon cancer and gastroesophageal reflux disease with substantial research and publication on these topics. He has participation/expertise in the Swallowing Center and Nutritious Support Services at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
Bennie Ray Upchurch, MD
Dr. Upchurch joined the Creighton School of Medicine as the Acting Division Chief of Gastroenterology and as an associate professor of Internal Medicine. He received is Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in Iowa City, Iowa. He trained as a resident at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and was a Trainee in Gastroenterology at Ohio State University Hospitals in Columbus Ohio. Dr. Upchurch is Board certified in Gastroenterology.
Dr. Upchurch has a special interest in gastrointestinal bleeding, motility disorders and reflux. His clinical interests also include therapeutic endoscopy, developmental endoscopy, colon cancer screening, endoscopic implantable devices, endoscopic bariatric treatments of evaluation of medical technology.
Mary Koperski, APRN
Mary has joined the Creighton Division of Gastroenterolgy and is available for patient consultations. She is a board certified Nurse Practitioner specializing in gastroenterology. She earned her Master’s of Science in Nursing from The University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2007. Prior to her current position she worked extensively in hepatology and liver/small bowel transplantation.
Mary joined the staff at Creighton University Medical Center in January of 2009 and works in close collaboration with Dr. Stephen Lanspa. Together they form a team that provides comprehensive health care to patients with acute and chronic gastrointestinal disorders.
